I picked up this series, only because I loved RM's other two series. I felt that the first few chapters didn't catch my attention. A very slow start for me at least. I put it down, but thankfully picked it back up a few days later. Once she met Kiyo, I was in for the long haul. I'm a sucker for a good, hot romantic twist to a story. I felt that this story also branched out from most stories in this genre. It was very different. I love how RM writes Eugenie. She is just sooo strong. She is a real role model. Ya, she screws up, but she's human (well mostly ) She's been pushed into this new situation, where most people would have broke down. Eugenie just gathers herself back up, and strides forward. She doesn't let attempts on her life and attempted rape slow her down. The secondary characters in Eugenie's world are great too. Kiyo was pretty amazing in this first book. He seems pretty perfect for for Eugenie. He's strong enough to protect her, and he seems to really care for her. And god he's hot! Then their is Dorian. He's strong, funny, cocky, and powerful, but his motives just don't seem right in this book. After finishing this book, I just couldn't wait for the second installment. I just hate that this books fall so far between.

I loved Storm Born. I found it odd to read at first, (I mean a possessed shoe?) but the storyline was hot and attention grabbing. I love Kiyo and thought Dorian was a freak as in sex psychopath but when I found about Kiyo's misplaced bun, I wasn't as big a fan of him anymore. The scene at the bar was one of my faves though. One of my favourite things about Mead's character's is that they're all witty and exchange fun conversation. And Eugenie doesn't disappoint.

Exactly...possessed shoe...really! I think once I got to the bar scene, I was hooked too. Really enjoyed Kiyo early on. I could even deal with a little bit of the possessiveness. I guess Dorian's quirks didn't bother me. Dorian is fea, right. I guess after reading LKH's Meridith Gentry Series, I see Dorian's behavior as normal for fea. I'll hold out judgment on whether or not he's a psychopath, until we get to know him better ; ) .

I was grabbed really quick with this book. Didn't find the possessed shoe off putting or anything. I agree, the scene at the bar between Eugenie and Kiyo is awesome! One of the best. I picked this series up because I'd read Richelle's other two already as well, and found it just as good. In some ways, I like this more than the Georgina series (overall, I don't, not any more, but I did at the time). I love Eugenie's strength and passion. Her ability to keep going, even if she doesn't want to. Her way of coping with everything thrown at her.
Kiyo: Liked him to start but not when his secret came to light. Sorry, not happy with him at all.
Dorian: unsure about him to start with, but as the book wore on I really liked him. Was never even close to sure about his motives and what he could be hiding, but he was fun. And like HCross, said, he's Fae, and not the first I've read about, and for a Fae he could be far, far more twisted. So none of that stuff bothered me. And I found his fetish for matching ropes/bonds funny. I really liked him. Wasn't sure he was good for Eugenie, but on his own, love his character.

This was actually the first Richelle Mead book I read and this is what got me hooked on her. Her characters in her books are so believable and perfectly created and this series is no exception.
This book was also my first introduction to Fae but I don't really think I was put off by Dorian's quirks shall we say. I just find him really amusing and a fun character to read about.
As for Kiyo I liked him in the beginning I'm with Cem. Really not impressed!
Overall I think it is a really good start to a series but at this point do we expect anything else from Ms Mead!

I finally just read it!!!
OK, I really liked Kiyo. But after that secret... I just can't handle it. I can't do it!! Like, he still loves his ex, and they will spend sooo much time together because of the kid.
I think, in today's families, this thing works out ok. You know, the whole seperated parents and step mother thing. But I feel like there is a distinct boundary there- and there isn't an already set boundary between Kiyo and Maiwenn. They haven't had a kid, tried it, and split up. Eug has no idea how this kid will effect Kiyo & Maiwenn's relationship!
And I guess, if it was the baby coming to see Kiyo, then staying with Maiwenn, it would be ok. Like, (again) today's families. But this will be the baby staying with Maiwenn, and Kiyo going to see them both. How many ex's hang out that much?!
And we still don't know who he would chose- Eug or Maiwenn, if Maiwenn wanted Eug dead. I mean, would Kiyo really risk giving up being in his child's life?!
I think Kiyo should have been open about it from the start, when Eug first met Maiwenn. That would have made it better, IMO. But he didn't. ---
As it stands, I love Dorian. About how he made Eug Thorn Queen and all- or how he wants her to conceive, I don't care. Those don't seem like such huge offenses to me, even if Eug doesn't like it. I love, love, love him and I love that he loves her. Kiyo just seems like a love-stuck boy in comparison. I don't know why. I love how he is so patient, and smart, and kind, and just, noble? He seems like a really good guy!
Side note: Cem, do we actually agree on something with the male leads?! lol

OK, so that was the guys.
Other stuff:
Finn, didn't surprise me.
The sister- WHOA! Didn't see that one. Is it really harsh to say I think Eug should kill her sister?! I would be glad. (This- coming from me, the girl who cried during the Charlie St. Cloud preview when the little brother dies) But I want that little bitch whore DEAD. Makes things so much easier.
I want Eug to go after that power. It seems dangerous, like it can become addicitng, but I want her to be able to have it and control it. And I think, maybe with Kiyo at her side, it will be easier for her to control her magic-lust?
I feel bad for the people who have to live in Thorn Land lol. Arizona? yuh. But I want her to embrace it- just because she doesn't like it, doesn't mean she can let the land die or all those people suffer. She has this responsibility now, she needs to handle it.
I want her to fill her parents in on these new events- at least the sister part. And did the prophecy say the "Storm Kings daughter" will open the way for the grandkid, or "The Grandkid's Mother"? Because, if it's the first, then it doesn't matter who has the kid right? The sister can still be the one to clear the way for him.
Really, power isn't so bad. If Eug uses it, she can side with Maiwenn and make sure there isn't an invasion of our world.
And oh boy- can't wait to see if Kiyo finds out about Eug & Dorian's smexin'!

Lol yes Aly, we agree on a male lead here!! Kiyo was so wrong to lie to Eugenie about the baby. After that honesty talk when they first met? Complete jerk for keeping it from her for as long as he did.
