I guess this is more of a two pronged question. Who would you choose for Eugenie (with 2 books behind us) and why? If you had to choose for yourself who would you pick?

Kiyo. Because he's hot and serious. His possessiveness just proves he has strong views and values and because he's hot.
Dorian sounds fun but he also sounds like a bit of a freak.

A FREAK?!!?!?! How can you call him that?!! *takes deep breath* Sorry. DORIAN!!!! I love Dorian. He's awesome. Funny, smart, sexy. And he loves Eugenie. I liked Kiyo at the start of book 1, but I then didn't because: (Storm Born) He failed to tell Eugenie about the baby. Sorry, but I really, really hate that. He should have been honest with her soon as Eugenie Met Maiwenn, not risk her finding out like she did. I get that it's a tough situation, and I understand that it was a hard decision for him, but given their very first conversation was about honesty, I think it was a big screw up from him. I didn't like it. And he's yet to do anything to redeem himself to me. (BIG Thorn Queen spoilers) Then I didn't like how he basically ignored Eugenies problems in TQ. I get he was preocupied with the baby, and that may be fair enough. But he did say he wanted Eugenie in his life, with the baby, and yet he didn't make any real effort to try and make Eugenie comfortable with the situation. And then near the end, when Eugenie is rescued, and he tells her not to take the shot? No, sorry, hated that. I understand that he was afraid of how it would change her or whatever, but he basically protected his girls rapest. If he'd stepped in and killed the guy himself, I'd have loved him. But he didn't. He just told Eugenie to let him go. Sorry, but for me, I just can't understand how he could do that, just like Eugenie.
Kiyo may keep saying he loves Eugenie and wants to make a relationship with her work, but actions speak louder than words and so far, I've yet to see real evidence of it. I'm not saying Dorian is perfect, or perfect for Eugenie, but I don't like Kiyo. I like Dorian a lot more, though I'm pretty certain he's got his own agendas and plans too. But right now, I love him.

No need to apologise. I agree with what you have to say about Kiyo. In fact, I don't really like either Kiyo or Dorian much. Anyone and everyone has views and values. Kiyo can't really be so possessive of Eugenie considering his extra-curricular activities. But there's no neutral or neither option, so I chose Kiyo because he's not as kinky or weird as Dorian is to me.

Kiyo can't really be so possessive of Eugenie considering his extra-curricular activities. Exactly! That's what pisses me off so much about him, is how he's so possessive when he is around her, but he's barely there and brushes her off for Maiwenn and the baby in a heartbeat. Something wrong with that.

Something wrong with that. I think that you hit my biggest issue with Kiyo right on the head. Other then that he'd be great. Sexy, funny, and strong. Well, there is that little issue with him not having the stomach to do the tough things in life, unlike Dorian. I love Dorian. I love his attitude. I love how he interacts with Eugenie. I love how he was willing to help her even when she told him she wouldn't be with him.

Yep, yep and yep.
Really made me laugh and cringe in Thorn Queen when we discovered Dorian had been sleeping with women who looked kind of like Eugenie. I'm really, really looking forward to seeing where their relationship goes in Iron Crowned and I hope he's the one come the end of the series. But I suspect Richelle's not done with Kiyo yet either!

Well, there is that little issue with him not having the stomach to do the tough things in life, unlike Dorian. I guess this is one of the things I like about Kiyo. I'll be honest and say that I haven't read Thorn Queen word for word. I basically read the first few pages, skimmed a bit of the middle and then read the last pages. But it's still on my tbr list. I got that gist that Kiyo didn't want to kill and didn't want to do anything that would make him more "fae-like". I have to read it all properly for myself to know what really went down, I don't mind spoilers by the way, but the mere idea of Kiyo not doing something because he wants to stick to his human values is attractive to me. It makes him more easy to relate to and less alien. Dorian, well apart from his kinkyness, there's nothing really to hate about him. He's not human so I can't assume or predict anything about his behaviour. And that's unnerving. It's great that Eugenie can see past that and just understand him for the fae he is but I'm much more tentative. [red]Succubus Series Spoiler[/red] Especially after reading what Seth did to Georgina. I never thought they were a good match but the fact that he still did what he did, well it kinda makes me think "I told ya so"

DORIAN!!!! No question! GAWD!! There is no competition between him and Kiyo for once I am not torn between a triangle! lol! You guys pretty much touched all of my thoughts on why I dislike Kiyo and as for Dorian he can tie me & blindfold me to a chair anytime!

I think I'm team Dorian. I don't really like either Kiyo or Dorian. It seems to me that they both want something from Eugenie rather than wanting her for her.
Dorian is pretty lush though!

Team Dorian, baby. Kiyo's actions in the last one just angered me so much. His almost-apathy drove me up the wall.

I think I would have put up with a lot from Kiyo, being the sexy beast he is. Baby Mamma drama and all. But he needed to man up, and do what's right for Eugenie! AND He didn't...end of story. We'll see what his future holds, and whether he can grow as a character. I have faith (hahaha I typed Faythe and read through it once without noticing) in Richelle Mead's writing and her character development.

I'm not saying Dorian is perfect, or perfect for Eugenie, but I don't like Kiyo. I like Dorian a lot more, though I'm pretty certain he's got his own agendas and plans too. But right now, I love him. This is my response, exactly. Thank you, Cem, for writing it out for me He talks about not wanting her to change- not wanting to embrace who she is- yet he is expecting her to change and embrace HIS new life and his baby. Eugenie needed some help in this book, and he 1.) wasn't around to give it and 2.) when he was there, he was either apathetic almost or mad about the direction she was headed in. And then, he would justify his anger by saying he wanted to protect her. But protect her, or protect Maiwenn and Maiwenn's ideals? I can't even put into words how I feel about him. Hypocrite isn't right, but it's like sooo many of his actions are completely bass-ackwards. He says he loves her, and he wants her love and support, yet he gives her no support! What about in SB or with the Smokey the Bear? He fights for her, he doesn't let anything come near her, and then, he has the life of her rapist in his hands, and he wants to let him go free?! He should have been irrational! What about all his instincts?! What about his need to protect?! He should have killed him the moment he got a chance. What was it that had him wanting to let the... I can't think of a word lowly enough... the scum go free?! I honestly don't think it was because he has a weak stomach. He is a vet, Maiwenn is a healer, but Kiyo is a killer too. The scum bag on his knees or not, what if that man had raped Maiwenn? What if someone had hurt Luisa? Would Kiyo have hesitated for one instant?! I honestly don't think he would have. So what was different with Eugenie?! Did he and Maiwenn sit down and have a chat? Decide that killing the scum would lead to war, war would lead to Eugenie getting more territory and using her power, and it would all lead to the realization of the Storm King's legacy?? AND- the person who could have killed the piece of shit with the least consequences (well, the Queen Shit would probably take Eugenie to war anyway) but Roland! Roland has no ties, he already kills gentry, he is a father protecting his daughter, and Kiyo made him lower his gun!! UGH! Dorian- Dorian was able to kill the rapist of the woman he loved. He did the right thing (IMO), he did the thing ANY of the people who loved Eugenie would have done. I'm thinking about the people in Eugenie's life... her family, human friends, gentry friends, gentry employees or subjects... I can't think of any of them hesitating to kill the shit head. Only Kiyo did.

Ah thank you Aly for explaining exactly why my best friend Em and I now seriously dislike Kiyo. Neither of us were happy with him for lying to Eugenie about the baby, but we could have come to like him again in Thorn Queen, if he hadn't ignored Eugenie so much. But not killing her rapist? That's something I doubt I can forgive him for. I would be mega impressed with Richelle if she turned it around and made me like him again, but I don't see it happening. Killing the rapist should have been instinct, and yet he stands there and says 'don't'. I couldn't believe it. Thank you Dorian for stepping in!!
Dorian is just awesome ;D

Ugh. I really want to rant on why I like Kiyo but I haven't read enough of Storm Born to even be sure about it. *sighs*
I'll get it from the library again soon.
